How Two Decades of Experience Led Mark Briggs to Trust ReNew Solar Solutions

How It All Started: Looking Into Solar Back in 2006

Mark Briggs began exploring solar energy long before it was common. In 2006, he was living on a farm and seriously considering installing solar panels, but the costs were still high at the time.

“I first actually investigated solar in 2006 and I had a farm at the time and looked at putting it in there but the cost was much higher than today relative to the energy produced.”

Instead of rushing in, he waited. When the timing was right, he installed his first system on the farm in 2012.

“So I actually went ahead and put it in in 2012 at the farm.”

Downsizing with Solar in Mind

In 2021, Mark and his wife sold the farm and moved to Clarksville. Even as they downsized, solar remained a priority in their home search.

“We sold the farm, downsized in 2021. So, when I moved here one of the factors of picking this place was a south-facing roof.”

The home they selected is around 6,000 square feet. Thanks to Solar, their electric bills are a fraction of what they used to be.

“I have a heat and cool about 6,000 square feet and my utility bill runs probably less than $100 a month year-round… without solar it would probably be seven or eight times that.”

Choosing ReNew Solar Solutions Over Other Companies

Despite already having solar experience, Mark didn’t take shortcuts when choosing an installer for his new home. He compared several bids and was impressed by ReNew Solar Solutions founder John Hrudicka.

“John is a good business guy, and he came here and he did it right.”

Mark knew this installation would be more complex than his previous systems. His home required a large 400-amp service and two different paneling systems.

“This was a complex system that we put in. It was a 400-amp service, two different paneling systems, and so it was a little challenging. He (ReNew) had the engineers and the expertise to design it and install it at a great price relative to what the other guys wanted to charge.”

Living with Solar: Practical and Personal Reasons

Solar isn’t just a financial decision for Mark. It aligns with his values and lifestyle. He and his wife have always tried to conserve energy, and today they drive electric and hybrid vehicles.

“I drive an electric car and my wife has a hybrid and so we’ve always tried to conserve energy.”

For Mark, the appeal of solar is both environmental and economic.

“Solar is something that’s renewable and never runs out. The sun never runs out.”

“It’s a pay once and enjoy forever. The payback period is elongated a little bit more than it used to be, but it still pays back within certainly a relevant time frame.”

How Solar Incentives Make a Big Impact

Even after all these years, Mark still sees major benefits from tax credits and other incentives. He believes homeowners today still have strong financial reasons to make the switch.

“The tax advantages are just terrific. The government pays for probably well over half of it including all the tax advantages and so really you get free power as long as you live in the place.”

His Advice to Other Homeowners Considering Solar

Having worked with three solar companies over the past 20 years, Mark encourages people to research carefully and work with a company that knows what they’re doing.

“Wherever it is I think you should look to see who’s servicing your area. That’s important.”

“And I think that you should make sure you’re comparing apples to apples because there’s a lot of complexity.”

“And I think ReNew is one of the best that I’ve dealt with out of the three different companies that I’ve dealt with in the solar business.”
